There are three main
ways to get to the hip and happening Hamptons and Fire Island. The
first is by, car but beware especially on friday evenings and
afternoons—the traffic can be pretty heavy on the LIE(Long Island
Expressway). The other two ways I feel are the best and most convenient
ways to get out to the island to your share house or weekend getaway
are the Hampton Jitney, which is a luxury coach service, and the Long
Island railroad which has recently added some new double decker cars.
The
Hampton Jitney is a little more expensive than the Railroad, but it is
very convenient and it gives you choices of where you can catch it. You
can also bring your bicycle that they will happily load under the bus
for you, for an extra storage fee of ten dollars. Oh, you also get a
drink and a snack for your ride.
The Long
Island railroad is also very pleasant now that they've added some new
high-tech double decker cars. The trains leave from Penn station (Under
Madison Square Garden), but be ready to fight your way for a seat on a
busy weekend.
You can
also take a helicopter or small plane which you can investigate on your
own since I have never been able to afford them. Here are the links to
both the Hampton Jitney and The LIRR.
A really
nice alternative is to use Lydia's Limos they are very reasonably
priced and very friendly. They have a very convenient "door-to-door"
van shuttle service. You must mention summersharehouse.com when
booking reservations.
If you are
going to Fire Island you have to take a ferry you can either get to the
ferries either by car or the Long Island Railroad. click on the button
below for ferrie schedules.
